The short version: You buy hardware. You own it. The software is open-source and yours to keep. We provide setup, support, and a warranty. No subscriptions, no recurring fees, no lock-in.
1. What You're Buying
A BalanciaAI system is a one-time purchase that includes:
- Hardware: Raspberry Pi-based server(s), storage, networking equipment, and all cables and accessories needed for operation
- Software: Pre-configured open-source software stack (Nextcloud, Jellyfin, Home Assistant, and other services depending on your package tier)
- Setup: Professional deployment and configuration tailored to your needs
- Support: Post-deployment support as described in Section 5
2. Pricing and Payment
All prices listed on balanciaai.org are one-time costs in US dollars. There are no monthly fees, subscription charges, or hidden costs.
- Nano: Starting at $800
- Home+: Starting at $1,800
- Professional: Starting at $5,000
- Enterprise: Starting at $10,000+
Custom configurations may be priced differently. Final pricing is confirmed before purchase. Payment is due upon order confirmation.
3. Ownership
Once delivered, the hardware is yours. You own it completely. Specifically:
- You own all hardware components
- You own all data stored on the system
- You control all user accounts and access
- You can modify, extend, or repurpose the hardware as you see fit
- You can install additional software or remove existing software
The open-source software installed on your system is licensed under its respective open-source licenses (primarily AGPL, GPL, MIT, and Apache 2.0). You receive the same rights as any other user of that software.
4. Hardware Warranty
What's Covered
All BalanciaAI systems include a 1-year hardware warranty from the date of delivery. This covers:
- Defective hardware components (Raspberry Pi boards, storage drives, networking equipment)
- Hardware failures under normal operating conditions
- Power supply failures
What's Not Covered
- Physical damage from drops, spills, or power surges
- Damage from operating outside recommended environmental conditions
- Normal wear on storage media (SD cards, SSDs)
- Issues caused by unauthorized hardware modifications
Warranty Process
If a hardware component fails within the warranty period, contact us. We will ship a replacement component at no cost to you. In most cases, you can swap the component yourself with our guidance. If that's not feasible, we'll arrange a full unit swap.
5. Support
Included Support
Every BalanciaAI system includes:
- Setup support: Assistance during initial deployment and configuration
- 30 days of post-deployment support: Help with any issues that arise after your system is running
- Documentation: Access to our setup guides and knowledge base
Extended Support
After the initial 30-day support period, we offer optional paid support on a per-incident or retainer basis. This is entirely optional. Your system will continue to function without ongoing support.
What Support Covers
- Troubleshooting service issues
- Guidance on configuration changes
- Help with software updates
- Network connectivity assistance
What Support Does Not Cover
- Custom software development
- Training on individual applications (e.g., how to use Nextcloud)
- Issues caused by modifications you made to the system
- Third-party hardware or software not included in your package
6. Software Updates
Your BalanciaAI system runs open-source software. You are free to update the software yourself at any time using standard tools (Docker, apt, etc.). We may offer update assistance as part of support, but you are not dependent on us for updates.
We do not push updates to your system without your knowledge or consent. You control when and how your system is updated.
7. Delivery and Setup
- Systems are built to order. Typical delivery time is communicated at the time of purchase.
- Shipping is included for deliveries within the continental United States.
- Remote setup is included with all packages. On-site setup is available for Enterprise packages or by arrangement.
8. Refunds and Returns
Because each system is custom-built and configured:
- Orders may be cancelled before the system is built for a full refund
- Systems returned within 14 days of delivery in original condition are eligible for a refund minus a 15% restocking fee
- We will work with you to resolve any issues before resorting to a return
9. Limitation of Liability
BalanciaAI provides hardware and software tools for self-hosting. We are not responsible for:
- Data loss due to hardware failure, user error, or natural disaster (we strongly recommend backups)
- Security breaches resulting from misconfiguration or failure to apply updates
- Downtime or service interruptions on your self-hosted system
- Third-party software bugs or vulnerabilities
Our total liability is limited to the purchase price of your system. We strongly recommend maintaining regular backups of your data.
10. Acceptable Use
Your BalanciaAI system is your property and you may use it as you see fit, subject to applicable laws. We are not responsible for how you use your system after delivery.
11. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California, United States. Any disputes will be resolved in the courts of Alameda County, California.
12. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Changes do not apply retroactively to systems already purchased.
